As many know, Southern CA is ablaze. Los Angeles proper (the actual city) is pretty safe. May I quote my husband by saying, “It’s the one time you want to be happy we’re living in the concrete jungle…brush fires won’t get to us.” We’ll be in trouble when the earthquakes come – but safe from the annual brush fires. These were not issues in the Midwest!
We are safe; alas we have many co-workers, friends, and friends of friends who are in the path of the firey destruction. Many of my co-workers are literally living out of suitcases, staying with friends and families temporarily.
Since LA is basically surrounded by the fires, our air is getting thicker by the day. Today it has a rusty orange tint. If you walk outside, your throat becomes immediately dry and scratchy. Your clothes smell of ash and smoke after a 3 minute walk down the street. We are safe from the tragedy – yet we feel it the effects.
To stay indoors and out of the ash, yesterday I tried my new Cycle Ops trainer. It’s pretty slick. I enjoy it a lot – it is much safer than taking to rush hour traffic at night. I will admit, the biking does get monotonous…I will be looking into TiVo’ing more “fun, fast” programs as well as movies.
Maybe tonight I’ll start “The Wedding Singer” as I pedal. “Mutants at table nine” anyone?
